Every now and then, nature really blows our minds with wholesome surprises propelling our science questions in many different ways. Quimera the chimera cat, who has taken over the internet, is one such surprising delight that happened in Argentina.
Quimera is what’s known as a genetic chimera cat whose origin from two different original eggs has resulted in an unusual coloring of the body. Her bright ocean blue eyes are in utter contrast with her other eye, which has the coloring of a divine citrine gemstone. The color split continues down her chest to her front legs, with the sides reversed.

The chimerism color split is an extremely rare yet altogether natural occurrence. When an individual is made up of cells from at least two different original eggs, the two fuse together to become one organism whose DNA is from two completely different individuals.

Scientists assume that Quimera could also be a mosaic, another natural occurrence much more common in felines. It is a condition where one individual egg just happens to have different active genetic expressions in its cells. A DNA test could certainly answer all the questions.
